The CPI Centre is composed of five distinct service areas which, as a whole, are responsible for the delivery and sharing of national police, law enforcement, criminal justice, and public safety information through the CPI system. The five service areas are:
Program Support
Oversees all human resource and logistical aspects of the CPI Centre including those of the Field Operations. Are also responsible for the maintenance of the CPIC web site. This Unit provides Secretariat Services to the CPIC Advisory Committee and its Sub-Committees.
NPS Net Access
Oversees the provision of access to the CPIC system and National Police Services Network (NPS Net). Coordinates and implements system interface requirements, CPIC/Network security policies, and Strong I & A (Token or Smart Card) access. Also responsible for providing investigational assistance to the Offline Search Unit, the administration of security breaches, CPIC line connection cost recovery functions and monitoring of service costs.
Field Services
Responsible for the management of the national CPIC audit program which is coordinated through strategically located CPIC Field Operations Sections across Canada. They identify CPIC client/user requirements along with providing ongoing monitoring and auditing of CPIC usage. Field Services also develops, maintains, updates and provides CPIC courses/training.
Field Services also includes Field Operations offices in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Quebec, Nunavut, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, North West Territories, and British Columbia, Yukon, the Ontario Provincial Police, Policing Services Division of Ontario and Le Centre de renseignements policiers du Québec (CRPQ).
These offices oversee the application of CPIC across the country and act as the liaison between CPIC partners and the CPI Centre. They are responsible for conducting CPIC audits (of CPIC users/clients/records), for delivering CPIC training and for providing direct support to users with the CPIC application.
Program Policy
Responsible for the development and implementation of CPIC policy including the maintenance of the CPIC Reference Manual. Provides assessments of new initiatives, user problems and client liaison. Reviews access applications submitted by client agencies and develops, maintains, and updates MOUs/MOCs. Provides investigative assistance through the Offline Search Unit by data mining on non indexed fields and narrative messages.
National Integrated Interagency Information System (NIII)
Led by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), in partnership with 172 Canadian police services and 8 public safety agencies, the National Integrated Interagency Information (N-III) System Project provides program elements and technology tools to establish a foundation for interoperability and information sharing across the Canadian public safety and security sector. N-III is comprised of two information sharing tools: the Police Information Portal (PIP) and the Integrated Query Tool (IQT).
